Sorry for the lack of postings of late, will try to get back in the groove this week. In the meantime, I wanted to take a moment to mark the passing yesterday of one of the all-time great TV moms, Barbara Billingsley. She was most known for her roles as June Cleaver on the classic [...]

Saturday night we decided to take it easy and enjoy an ’80s movie double-header. First up was 1989′s The ‘Burbs, followed by 1986′s April Fool’s Day. The ‘Burbs is one of those movies I’ve always sort of taken for granted. It’s the movie equivalent of comfort food. When writing this post, I realized I have [...]

You magnificent bastard. “What would you like to be?” “Everything you hate.” Those are lines lifted from Citizen Kane and used to great effect in the White Stripes’ “The Union Forever” (from their breakthrough album White Blood Cells.) Kane was one of those movies that I had never gotten around to seeing for one [...]

This clearly took some time to put together. And let me tell you, it was time well spent. Kudos to TheCBVee for this amazing collection of Star Wars clips cut together in the style of the Magnum, P.I. title sequence. I think the Rick/Luke clips were my favorite part.

When I was ten years old, I went to see the movie Breakin’ with some of my friends at our local singleplex. That evening I had what can only be described as a religious experience. It was certainly transcendent. Who knew humans could move in this fashion? I went home that night determined to become [...]

This year’s Sports Illustrated “Where Are They Now?” issue has a nice retrospective on Caddyshack, featuring comments from actors Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, and Cindy Morgan, writer/director Harold Ramis, producer Jon Peters, and others involved with the film. Some interesting stuff in there, particularly regarding casting decisions. Click here to read. Some of my favorite [...]

Last night Ms. Retronaut and I watched 1995′s Empire Records, the story of one of the last independent record superstores (seriously, the place is as big as any of the old Tower Records or Virgin Megastores) and its impending takeover by MusicTown, the personification of “the Man” for the purposes of the narrative. It also [...]
