On a class trip to New York City in 1991, a friend of mine gave me a cassette of Ace Frehley’s solo album to listen to, saying “I think you’ll like this.” A bit of an understatement, that was. The first song I listened to was ‘New York Groove’ and I was hooked before the [...]

Been over this before, but this list is not entirely random. If a song comes up on shuffle I don’t really want to listen to, I’ll skip ahead. On with it: Allentown – Billy Joel Psycho Therapy – Skid Row Overnight Sensation – The Raspberries Time Traveler (demo) – KISS Yer Blues – The Beatles [...]

As I explained last week, I don’t do the random thing. I do shuffle, but if a song comes on I don’t want to hear I’m not above skipping to the next. Or the next. Or the next….you get the idea. Birds – Adrian Belew Ramona – The Ramones Mas Que Nada – Sergio Mendes [...]

Just heard this song on Sirius Classic Rewind and had to share. Great sleazy rock riff. More enjoyable if you don’t have to look at the band, the perms and white bell bottoms are a little distracting.

On this day in 1965, the Beatles played Shea Stadium in New York City, before what was then a record audience of 55,000+ people. The deafening level of the crowd noise combined with how far they were from the audience (you can see it in the clip, fans were not allowed on the field) meant [...]

I believe he would agree with me. At first I was going to do this the standard way: put the iPod on shuffle and just see what happens. But why should I have to listen to a song just because my iPod wants me to? That’s why I have a thumb and why my iPod [...]

Bruce and Eric have some concerns about their placement in this photo. Although I didn’t get to watch it live (MTV didn’t air it until Halloween), it was 15 years ago today that the original four members of KISS – Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss – got back together to record [...]

I was listening to KISS’ Asylum one day when I noticed something: KISS songs have almost no subtext whatsoever. Virtually any song in their discography can be taken at face value; in fact they pretty much demand to be taken completely literally. And then I had an idea: I will listen to all 23 KISS [...]
