Hello world!
Greetings inhabitants of Planet Earth, I am the Retronaut, broadcasting to you from deep within our collective pop culture consciousness.¹ I float freely among the artistic output of the past 60 years, randomly arriving a la Dr. Sam Beckett at particular moments of greatness (or, just as often, not-so-greatness) in television, film, music, comic books, and more.
Given that internet pop cultural analysis & comment is nothing new, the very existence of this site naturally raises the question: Why? To that I would respond with the same answer my friend Chief did when asked why he wanted to pierce his nipple²: “Why not?” Why not indeed. I hope that this will be a place where like-minded people can discuss the artistic merits of Jason Bateman’s short-lived sitcom It’s Your Move or whether Remote Control was a better game show than Singled Out (It was.) A place for people who don’t look at me strangely when I say I spent the weekend watching Pump Up the Volume or Van Nuys Blvd instead of the latest new release.
Anyway, I hope you will stick around for a while. I hate watching The Rockford Files by myself.
¹Actually I’m in my basement, in front of the TV.
²I mean he literally wanted to pierce it himself, using an earring shaped like a skull.
